Been playing with my twitter again, trying to do interact with the online world, make friends, get a following, etc. Marketing and whatever. I'm interested in self-publishing. And I have a damn puppy to babysit, and my health is in a bad downswing, and and and and. It's a lot. But that's where I've been.

comments

I'm having such trouble with the accents in this thing I'm writing. Cornish English has a very, VERY distinctive sound, and most of the characters would have speak very strong West Cornish dialect. To properly illustrate it, I'd have to type out the accent phonetically, which I've seen done well, but I don't know if I could do it well. In addition, I don't want it to seem like I'm making fun of the accent.

I've been using word order and dialect words to try and get the point across. I've done a not-insignificant amount of research into how it sounds, but I'm still cautious. If you don't know what slang means, your usage can be unnatural. So I'm just kind of floating here, thinking I know enough to not make it offensive or stereotypical but not sure enough to go through with it???

comments

Excerpt From Current Writing

It couldn’t be a very large dog, Dorothee thought, because then there would be blood everywhere and pieces strewn about and it would be a mess. But it was easy to believe.

They’d had problems with very large dogs before. People from the city liked to come out to the farmlands and abandon intimidating dogs they couldn’t care for, or, more likely, no longer felt like caring for.

Dorothee had always felt bad for the big abandoned dogs, in a distant way. They hadn’t asked to be adopted by negligent people, and they must have been scared and sad. And, most importantly, starving.

The pity only went so far. Big, starving dogs were death to sheep, or little kids if things got too bad.

comments

Babby's First Text Post

In my hunt for someplace to go that isn't tumblr, it was finally suggested that I check out Dreamwidth, which I intend to do now! Hi, I'm Lightning, I write a lot of garbage, draw a lot of junk, and have a lot of opinions. Pleased to make your acquaintance, or, if you've gone through the whole stack of entries that will be over this one in the future: Hi! You're at the bottom now. You read them all!

comments
