Apr. 14th, 2016 11:23 am I'm having such trouble with the accents in this thing I'm writing. Cornish English has a very, VERY distinctive sound, and most of the characters would have speak very strong West Cornish dialect. To properly illustrate it, I'd have to type out the accent phonetically, which I've seen done well, but I don't know if I could do it well. In addition, I don't want it to seem like I'm making fun of the accent.
I've been using word order and dialect words to try and get the point across. I've done a not-insignificant amount of research into how it sounds, but I'm still cautious. If you don't know what slang means, your usage can be unnatural. So I'm just kind of floating here, thinking I know enough to not make it offensive or stereotypical but not sure enough to go through with it???
